Customer Reviews:
Some subtle description differences By Mr. B
I ordered this ring on a Friday morning and received notification that it shipped the same day. Late Sunday night I received a call from UPS informing me that a delivery would occur the next day that required a signature. At noon on Monday, the ring arrived in a seemingly large plain Amazon box (12x9x4). Inside was a protective cardboard insert and another one at the bottom had the ring box shrink wrapped to it. From the description, I expected a small cardboard box followed by a blue suede or velvet bag for the ring but instead there was a small blue box with a nice laquered wooden box that contained the ring. The ring fit well and was highly polished with a substantial weight and feel to it. Looking at the inner band I expected to find "950 plat" again according to the description. Instead, the inside read "Benchmark PLAT". I googled benchmark and learned they were a ring company and that they introduced "Comfort Fit" to the US. They have a lifetime guarantee on their rings and invite the user to send the ring in for free lifetime sizing and/or restoration of the ring to as new. Pretty impressive today and I think I made a great purchase from Amazon!incorrectly advertised on attributes, however a great deal. By A. Yashchuk
One star because advertised attributes do not match the product description.
I own this, my fiance bough it for me here on Amazon. The first ring that arrived had a scratch. In my opinion, the scratch was acquired during manufacturing. No big deal, we returned it and re-ordered a new ring.
The new ring arrived just fine. I'm very happy with it and will keep it because I like it and because it's from my future wife. I would give this item 5 stars if it measured 6mm and was 12 grams. The descriptions are incorrect, and you the potential buyers should be aware of this. Many of you wouldn't even think about doing what I did:
I put the ring on a digital scale (high accuracy and properly calibrated) and the weight is 11.63 grams. why would a ring weight less that 12 grams?, well, the next measurement was with a digital caliper, again, high accuracy, calibrated etc.. etc.. The width is NOT 6mm as advertised but rather comes in at 5.71mm. I took 4 readings(12, 3, 6, 9 o'clock positions), they were: 5.72, 5.72, 5.71 and 5.68mm. Prior to using a caliper, I casually put the ring against a high quality metric ruler and it was clear that it wasn't quite 6mm. Caliper measurements confirmed this.
These small, deviations from the advertised numbers explain why the price is much lower that from other makers where you have same attributes (weight and width). In all honesty, the price of this ring is fantastic compared to rings that are a full 6mm width and weigh a proper amount. The measured differences are tiny, but they explain the reason for this excellent price/value.
I'm of the opinion, that these rings are those that do not pass the internal quality by Benchmark (the maker). Benchmark makes high quality products and you can see them at their stores. I believe that this specific product are those rings that simply would not be sold in the store WITH the lifetime warranties. They do not hold up to the high quality standard Benchmark sells in their stores with the lifetime warranty.
Having said all this, I understand all these things and reasons why the ring's price is what it is. I'm totally fine with the VALUE of this ring. but only because I understand exactly what I have. Perhaps some of you would feel that you did not get what you really wanted. So, make your own decisions, take your own measurements.
BTW, I completely agree with another comment here about Benchmark vs. Tiffany...Incredible buy! By Kevin Z. Merszei
I bought this ring for myself and a similar ring for my fiancé for our recent marriage. The smallest size they have is a 9, so I went with that and had it sized down to a 6.75 by a local jeweler. Somehow, he managed to simply compress the ring into a smaller version of itself without removing any material, so what I ended up with was a size 9 ring-worth of material, squashed into a size 6.75. Now it weighs a bloody ton! (this cost me all of $85 btw). I am quite happy!
Look folks, I have read some strange reviews of this stuff, but the bottom line is, platinum is platinum and if it says 950 (which means 95% platinum and 5% alloy, which is the best you can buy), it is just that. And one review was all worried about the stamping... who gives a crap? Benchmark (seems to be Amazon's latest wholesale source) is world famous and will gladly stand behind their products. Frankly, I would prefer a ring from them than from Tiffany's (its the same metal with no baby-blue box mark-up!) This is a metal ring with a little shaping and polishing... THAT's IT!!! It is exactly what it says it is in the description! You absolutely cannot get a better price on this item anywhere! I challenge anyone to go to a local jewelry store... even some mall junk-shop like Kay, and try and beat this price based on quality. Hell, this is almost the spot price of platinum+ an hour of labor!
