Very High Quality Band! By Austin
When getting married recently, we decided to look into alternative metals for my band with the stupid high prices of gold and other precious metals these days,just as my wife and I also decided on an alternative stone for her engagement ring (we went with the beautiful Moissanite).
After comparing everything at the stores, I decided on Tungsten Carbide. I went with this 6mm ring, and have been very impressed so far. It has a great weight to it, it's not too thin or too wide for my taste, is very comfortable, and the shine on it is gorgeous. It also hasn't gained one scratch, as is the super-durable nature of tungsten carbide. Another bonus is that by buying through Amazon, I purchased it at about 1/5th the price of any store at the mall!
I've been getting a ton of compliments from everyone. Some have even mistaken it for platinum! I used to have an expensive platinum ring from a previous marriage. I just received this ring today, it took three days to receive [outstanding!]. It is a high polish silver with some "gun metal" grey hues to it. I'm a guy and not looking for a faux-white gold/platnium ring so this is fine. My 14K comfort ring is a 9.0/9.5 or so said the jewelery store. I printed off a ring size gauge and erred on the safe side and ordered a 9.5. Which by the way fits perfectly! My gold ring must be a 9.0 and is a bit tight, this one will not fall off but is much more comfortable than I am used to. I am a General Contractor, so my hands get beaten up every day, all day. I usually don't wear my gold ring when I know I'm going to be working. Gold is just too damn soft and after a day it would be trashed. I usually wear it evenings, weekends, meeting clients etc. I did not even have this one 5 minutes before I dropped it [examining it & wiping off] in the garage. It rolled around like it was alive and guess what not ONE scuff or acratch. I'm going to make my wife of 18 years very happy and wear this thing EVERY day. So you folks will get an update in about a month to see if I destroyed it or not. It seems to be hi-quality, don't know if there are different grades of TC or not, I was told plain Tungsten was a step below TC. This one is stamped/etched "Tungsten Carbide", it is a bit heavier/thicker than my 6mm wide 14K ring. it came packaged well in a 'lil zippy bag inside a velvet pouch which was fine. I don't need a foofy ring box anyways. I'll put my gold one in the pouch [& safe] so I don't loose it. Well that's it for now hope this helps you all make an informed decision! :)
One last item, I went to the local mall and looked at "identical" rings which by the way they did not even stock in my size [2 week lead time]. Of the three major name jewelery stores [which I won't name] the least expensive was $175, after that $238, with the highest at $310!!! Maybe b/c they advertise a lot on TV...? Go Figure.
UPDATE 3.5.12: Could not wait a month! I'm on a remodeling project now that I have done plumbing, carpentry and drywall in the past week. I get home shower and look at the ring, guess what not a scratch! looks like the ones in the display case, I am totally impressed. For all intents and purposes this thing might very wall be "indestructable" at least for a general contractor. more to follow.
UPDATE 3.22.13: Somehow in the past months since my last update I have scratched it up pretty good, probably doing some concrete/mortar work jobs. I think some of the aggregate in the mixes are harder than TC. Nontheless I still wear it everyday, it is comfortable and even with some scratches it still looks great. any other composition ring would havebeen destroyed months ago.All that I imagined and more By Kyle Mcauliffe
I purchased this as a wedding ring for myself. I have had problems with reactions to other metals in the past. I had a silver ring that would turn black after a week or two and was looking for something that was low maintenance and made to last. This ring is all of that. It's not too thick, fits me perfectly, and has kept a polished as a mirror with no work on my side since my wife put it on my finger 3 months ago.
